Thanks for coming over and commenting. I know the things you say are completely true. But, I think it's a two way kind of thing for me. They seem cool, but then they don't. I am gonna write up more about it, cause I found other stuff also. I am not trying to do any harm against them because their service is very innovative, as I've said. But, there are things I want to point out. None of them, I believe, will change any of the 9rules member's mind about them, or future ones. So, I am not going to stress too hard on it. It's a cool company, and for Mike to come and discuss it with me on here and through email, was a very impressive move to make.

I don't have any hard feelings about leaving 9rules. I credit being part of the network with a lot of the success I've had now. I still talk to a lot of the members and read a lot of blogs in the network.

Mike is right - there is no animosity. I think they have a great network. 9rules is growing and they're in an industry where any decision they make is magnified and dissected by dozens (sometimes hundreds) of people.

I disagreed with 9rules reasons for asking me to leave and the way it was handled, but 8 months later there are no hard feelings and I don't feel like they had a personal vendetta against me.

People criticize 9rules a lot, others praise it, whatever. 9rules has great content and the people running it are cool guys (and girl).

I'm real glad I could help, Ben's a great guy and I'd hate for anybody to think there's any animosity there. As for everything else I can definitely attest to saying things on my blog that might be half-truths, or random opinions without a lot of fact, so believe me I know where you're coming from ;)

Ah, now see, that's why I said I might have been suffering from foot in mouth disease lol. I know nothing of the situation, but was basing it on what I read in the blog. And I did read the interview that he had, so I understand there's no true hard feelings towards your company, not only that, I think it's a smart move for him, to introduce the interviews on his page and not have to show any grudge towards it. He's a businessman, and he's diplomatic it seems, so I am sure he had no harsh feelings towards you guys, other than just not understanding you guys reasoning for it.

But, as I now have both sides of the conversation, I can write a new post that will explain everything clearly, based on what you've told me. And don't worry, it's not going to be bad at all lol. It's surely going to be a good read.

So, in the end, I take back some of the things I have said. Just some. Not all. :)

(I left this comment previously but I don't know if it got through or not!)

Wow, lots of stuff here :) I hope I can clear some things up:

- No one was kicked out of 9rules randomly, we had a reason and we still stick by it. Many, many readers emailed us expressing concern that certain members were affiliated with another network, one that (back then) was responsible for personal attacks against people for no apparent reason. We changed our policy for such a situation, and even though we never anticipated having to do something like that, it had to be done. We discussed at great lengths with our members what was going on, what they thought, their impressions, but since you’re not in 9rules nor one of the people who left you can’t possibly have that first-hand knowledge. I think it’s a bit irresponsible to blanketly suggest that we told people to leave immediately without any sort of rational discussion.

- Ben from College-Startup had me in on a friendly interview over at his new site just a few months back about design and college entrepreneurship. I don’t think someone pissed at me or 9rules would do that.

- There are approximately 240 members in 9rules. Thousands of people apply to join, but over the course of 9rules history we’ve only accepted approximately 4-5% of the total submissions.

- There are lots of benefits to joining 9rules: one of our members nearly quadrupled his RSS subscribers after being announced, other people have landed new client projects, full-time jobs, venture capital funding, and a lot more.

Sorry for the longish comment, but I don’t think it fair to generalize about 9rules mis-steps when 1) you’re reading about this via blog entries written 8+ months ago, and 2) our members fully support our decisions and have written their own thoughts about 9rules (unprovoked) on multiple occasions. Of course nobody links to those ;)

If I can answer any more questions about 9rules please let me know.

Much agreed, but I do think that informing the individual of this, would be a much better business strategy. It's just based on the courtesy of things. If they had informed the guy about it and allowed him to explain the situation, and then make a decision, he may not have even written a post about it. This post, if it gets around, will make 9rules look like they don't care for their individuals in their network. And as if they believe the people on their network, aren't important to them, which they should be, because it's them who make the network, a network.

So, I agree with you, but then I have to disagree on the ways it went about. That's why I am disappointed with 9rules.

9rules prides itself on exclusivity and they have every right to remove someone who violates their TOS.

Try joining some fraternaties in college if you're already a member of another. I know for a fact that some professional frats require their members NOT to join any other professional frats if they wish to remain a member.

You have to apply to become a member, if you don't want to join... don't apply. It hurts no one if you don't join.
